Clyds, John. Streaming Movies on the Internet. 13 Oct 2009. Web. 9 Feb 2010.
This article explains in great detail the process of streaming movies on the internet. Many people do not understand how websites can legally have people view full movies on the internet. Streaming is a method that allows people to view the movie without allowing them to download the movie to their computer. This makes it legal.
Streaming is very useful today and is used all over the internet. This technique allows us to watch almost everything for free on the internet that has been aired on TV. Now a days, with the dependence of the internet by so many people, this is a great thing to have. This website explains in a short article on why streaming is made possible.
This is a great source to use for my topic because it explains how we are able to watch TV and movies for free. I wanted to really focus on the legality of it versus the illegal ways people go about watching and downloading shows and movies onto their computers.
Fancast. Watch Full TV Shows and Movies: Free Online Streaming. 2010. Web. 2 Feb 2010.
This is a website that doesn't explain video streaming but actually does it. Fancast is a popular website used by millions to access free TV shows and movies. On Fancast.com, you can look up any movie or TV show and watch it for free without downloading it to your computer.
I chose this website to include for my paper because it one of the most popular video streaming websites used today. The idea for my project came from my use of this site. After learning more about the technique of streaming, I realized that Fancast is a streaming website.
This site is a great example of what my project is based on. Sites like Fancast allow us to watch TV shows absolutely free. Without the process of streaming legally, we wouldn't be able to access these free shows. As I talk about the process of streaming, Fancast safely and quickly lets viewers watch their shows. Fancast also is a way of watching shows without worrying about downloading viruses.
Fuller, John. How Stuff Works: “How Internet TV Works”. 4 Jan 2010. Web. 9 Feb 2010.
This article explains in categories how the internet allows you to watch TV. It explains how you can watch it live, watch old recorded shows, and how internet TV has changed over the years. It explains the technology used in order for this type of system to work.
This article also compares costs of different types of TV entertainment. For example, the article compares Netflix to cable television to online streaming. Obviously, the article promotes online streaming and the process of doing so. After reading this article, people will clearly understand the background in making this process work.
I believe this is a perfect article to use for my project. It gives me in great detail, background information which I need to develop my topic. It teaches me everything I need to know, and how everything is tied together. Without the help of this website, I would not understand much of online streaming. Most of my paper will be referenced from this source.
Hulu. Watch your favorites. Anytime. For free. 2010. Web. 14 Feb 2010.
Hulu is very similar to Fancast considering it is another example of an online streaming website. Like I mentioned before with Fancast, it does not explain how streaming is done, but it shows you how streaming works by offering you free shows and movies.
Without Hulu and the process of video streaming, people would not be able to legally watch TV shows and movies on the internet for free. With the process of downloading movies, people risk downloading viruses and other sources that could permanently damage their computer. Hulu is a great way to stay connected with television and entertainment.
I believe this source is perfect to mention in my project because it offers everything that I will be discussing.
Mcbride, Sarah & Vascellaro, Jessica E., et al. Movie Studios Discuss ways to rent films over Youtube. 3 Sept 2009. Web. 16 Feb 2010
This site that I came across discusses that certain entertainment companies are trying to make an agreement with youtube about renting videos from their site. This will allow the companies to make for money on rentals. Because Blockbuster is not as common as it used to be, offering movies on the web allows viewers to rent movies without leaving their homes.
This idea is very convenient because of the way society is impacted by the internet. Offering online rentals is easy for people to come across. Because youtube is also very popular today, more people will be drawn to the idea.
This article is very useful for my project because I want to touch on other ways companies are making money off online streaming. Online streaming is not just useful for everyday people, but it is also useful for entertainment companies, allowing them to charge some for online video viewing.
Netflix. TV & movies instantly streamed online. 2010. Web. 16 Feb 2010
Netflix is another example of online streaming but it is somewhat different from Hulu and Fancast. Netflix requires you to register in order to watch the videos or shows. Netflix is a company that makes money from their online streaming.
Netflix does offer you a free trial but only for a short period of time. One thing that Netflix offers that Hulu and Fancast do not is the fact that they mail you videos to your house. In order to get another movie sent to you, you must return the other. This is a great system, beneficial for the costumers, and also beneficial for the company.
I would like to add Netflix to my project to compare free online streaming to online streaming that you must pay for. I feel comparing these sites will prove that there are many different ways of online streaming. I would also like to compare the companies of Hulu vs. Netflix and research more into how free online streaming is beneficial for the Hulu itself.
Tatcheva, Eva. TV Meets Web. Consumer Reports. 1 Mar 2010. Web. 2 Mar 2010.
This source, found on the database EbscoHost was an article written recently about the Web and online video streaming. The article discusses Youtube and AOL as they are coming into the video streaming world.
The article focuses on the pros of online streaming. Tatcheva mentions the cost of other forms of TV entertainment and compares it to the great convenience of free television on the internet. The article also recommends new types of technology if you are looking to upgrade. Because the internet is so popular today, internet compatible DVD players and other internet compatible technology is what people should be looking to purchase.
This article is very interesting to use for my project because it allows me to compare the internet 10 years ago to now. The internet is developing more and more each day and with the help of engineers we are developing new forms of entertainment. Although it may not be as comfortable to watch a movie or TV show on your computer, new technology allows you to watch the shows from the internet while connecting it to your TV. This offers you the chance to watch the shows comfortably on the TV as if they are coming from your cable box.
Utsu, Keisuke & Chow, Cheeonn, et al. A Study on Video Performance of Multipoint-to-point video streaming with multiple description coding over and hoc networks. Wiley Periodicals. 2004. Web. 2 Mar 2010.
This article, also found on EbscoHost, is a detailed example of an experiment done in Japan with electrical engineers. They “combine Multiple Description Coding (MDC) with multiple source transport (Multipoint-to-Point transfer: MP2P) in order to maintain smooth video streaming over wireless ad hoc networks”.
The results of the experiment prove that the mechanism does successfully improve video transfer as they were researching for.
I feel an experiment would be great to include in my project because it proves my side of the argument. I want to show that video streaming is helpful, cheaper, and more useful and this experiment proves this point.
